Job Responsibilities

 ***Accepting Applications for the Broad River Road Complex Only***
Under general supervision, performs duties in food services to include food preparation, cooking and serving of meals and delivering meals inside the SCDJJ Broad River Road Complex, including JDC and MEC on Shiver's Rd.  Cleans assigned area of food services to meet guidelines and standards set by the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC).  Assists in the preparation and serving of all meals following prescribed recipes; weighs and measures ingredients to ensure that required amounts of food are prepared.  Serves portions of food that meet the nutritional requirements of the National School Food Service Program.  After each meal, cleans assigned section in the food service area to meet guidelines and standards set by DHEC; specifically: machinery, serving equipment and utensils, pot and pan sink, dishes and dish washing machine, floors, coolers and freezers.  Operates the following equipment in the kitchen: mixer, can opener, meat slicer, dish washing machine, and oven.  Works in the presence of and guides the work of adult inmates.  Will follow all policies and procedures that guides specific work and general state guidelines that are required of all state employees. 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

High school diploma and experience in quantity and quality cooking. 

Preferred Qualifications

Requires knowledge of food preparation; considerable knowledge of methods, materials and appliances used in food preparation and service; working knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures pertaining to food preparation and service; ability to follow oral and written instructions.  This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation or recapture of juveniles within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with juveniles within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided. He/she will work under general supervision with daily feedback as necessary and an annual performance review will be conducted.

Minor traffic violations need not be reported. Convictions such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs are serious violations and therefore must be reported.
