The City of San Bernardino is seeking an experienced manager to lead the development, management, and coordination of policies and programs for the Building & Safety Division.
 

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the enforcement of construction and land use regulations, building permit processing and inspection and municipal code enforcement. The position involves implementation of division goals, objectives and work plans, and managing, evaluating and overseeing day-to-day division activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is two (2) years of college/university or technical school training. Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in enforcement of construction and land use regulations, building permit processing and inspection, municipal code enforcement, and at least two (2) years which were in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of training  and experience.

Accreditation shall be by a national or regional accreditation body that is recognized by the Secretary of the United States Department of Education.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid California class C driver's license and the ability to   maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.

A valid PC 832 certification at time of employment or ability to obtain within one year of employment. A valid certification as Building or Combination Inspector and Plans Examiner.

Certification as a Building Official by International Code Council must be obtained within 12 months of hiring.

Retirement for Current Members - For employees hired after 1/1/2013 who are current members of California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) or a reciprocal agency as of 12/31/12 and have not been separated from service from such agency for six months or more, the retirement benefit shall be 2% @ 55; highest single year of compensation.  

Retirement for New Members - For employees hired 1/1/2013 or later and who are not a member of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) or a reciprocal agency as of 12/31/12, or those who have been separated from a public agency which contracts with CalPERS or a reciprocal agency for six months or more, the retirement benefit shall be 2% @ 62; 3 year final compensation. New members will be obligated to pay 50% of the “normal cost” of their retirement benefits as required by State law.
