Definition

This is an entry-level, professional, full-time position in the Development Services Department, Permits and Inspections Division. An individual in this position will request, process and respond to customer's requests for permits and similar City services.

Examples of Work

  • Provide customer service by answering phones; provide information as requested; collect and process payments; respond to email and fax requests for information;
  • Welcome general contractors and other visitors; receive plans and applications; advise applicable plan reviewers from other departments that plans are ready for review in the plan review center;
  • Clerical duties include: data entry for posting on the City's website, create comment statements and file in appropriate job files; fax or email information; maintain files; maintain office supplies; and run various reports;
  • Prepare housing inspection tickets; process health and fire permits; issue licenses to contractors; issue residential Certificates of Occupancy; and may assist in processing residential plan submittals;
  • Schedule and coordinate inspections; coordinate and schedule pre-construction meetings; process Center Point Utilities releases; and balance cash receipts; may also preside over pre-construction meetings as assigned;
  • Issue commercial permits; prepare and maintain individual files on each commercial project until final inspections are conducted; and issue commercial Certificates of Occupancy;
  • Prepare completed commercial files and plans for document retention scanning.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned;
  • Subject to 24-hour recall.

Education, Experience, or Certification


High School Diploma or General Educational Development Certificate and professional experience in a government permit granting agency or closely related field required; bilingual (Spanish) desired.

The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

EDUCATIONAL REIMBURSEMENT
