Description
The Johnston County Public Health Department – Behavioral Health Division has an immediate opening for a board certified or board eligible Staff Psychiatrist - Physician III B. Outpatient, Inpatient or combination of experiences is possible with this position. Malpractice insurance is provided. A CME allowance is included. Loan repayment is a possible option.
Duties and Responsibilities
Employee treats all psychiatric, medical and neurological problems of assigned patients and evaluates and interprets related reports developed by physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other professional personnel.
Employee compiles histories of present and past illnesses and reviews available records and performs physical examinations. Employee examines new patients and established patients; determines need for and recommends referrals for special treatments or studies; and provides medication management and limited therapy.
Employee performs related duties as required, such as risk assessment and subsequent harm reduction interventions.
Possible assignment locations include an active outpatient Behavioral Health clinic, an interdisciplinary inpatient Behavioral Health unit, an emergency room equipped to stabilize and treat Behavioral Health patients when inpatient beds are not available and medical floors when psychiatric consultation is requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have thorough knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of general, preventive medicine and of the techniques involved; thorough knowledge of recent developments in the field of medicine; thorough knowledge of the practice of the medical specialty or subspecialty to which assigned. Must have skills in the treating and diagnosing of a variety of diseases and injuries and in the practice of an applicable specialty of medicine. Must have the ability to compile clear and concise notes for patient's charts and to make oral presentations of cases in medical conferences and ability to guide work performance of physicians with limited experience. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, patients, and their families, and the general public.
Desired Education and Experience
Must be board eligible/board certified psychiatrist and licensed to practice medicine in the State of North Carolina.
