- Provides general information to customers for various city services (such as water, sewer, potholes, ditches, culverts, traffic signals and signs, dangerous buildings, weeded lots) or transfers calls to appropriate City personnel.
- Researches, analyzes and resolves customers' problems and inquiries.
- Assists in locating personnel in the City of Houston to respond to citizens' requests for city services.
- Receives telephone calls using the automatic call distribution system and computer-based work management system to provide customers information on services requested.
- May receive calls for non-dispatch police services.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Designs and implements database formats through the analysis of data requirements. Schedules and coordinates routine maintenance of the application database. Designs and develops database formats utilizing data requirements derived from application analysis. Documents application database design and structure to provide substantial support for statements made or applications proposed. Coordinates the programming of database usage with application personnel to ensure that system demands are achieved. Ensures database integrity by setting up database backup and recovery procedures. Coordinates training for application personnel, including various aspects of database usage.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier 2 Level.
Duties
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Mathematics or a closely related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of experience in data processing including systems design, programming, and database application and management is required.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Valid Texas Driver’s License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving.
Qualifications
Preference will be give to candidates with DB2 9.5 and Oracle 10g databases experience on Linux or HPUX Operating Systems and strong knowledge in back up and recovery concepts. Working knowledge of Turbo image, creating storing procedures triggers, and data import / exports is a plus. Designs, implements and supports data warehouses and related data marts-conceptual, logical, and physical. Coordinates the programming of database usage with application personnel to ensure that system demands are achieved. Assists with the management of projects in the Integrated Land Management Systems (ILMS).
