Volunteer Firefighter

This is a volunteer, unpaid position.

The purpose of this position is to control and extinguish fires, conduct search and rescue missions, respond to medical emergencies, and administer life saving measures. This is accomplished by responding to medical and fire emergencies, treating patients, operating a variety of apparatus and vehicles, participating in training activities, assisting in the investigation of fires, and responding to the directives of incident commanders.  Other duties include maintaining the fuel supply for City vehicles, acting in a supervisory role when needed, participating in equipment testing, and compiling and maintaining reports and records.

Performs EMT duties by providing life support care to ill and injured individuals; performing physical examinations; maintaining communication with the physician on duty at the hospital; transporting the ill and injured to the appropriate medical care facility; operating emergency vehicles; and cleaning and maintaining equipment.

Performs administrative duties by preparing and maintaining reports; assisting in planning and implementing operations and activities; formulating policies and regulations; preparing and analyzing operations reports; ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations; and researching new developments in fire fighting and emergency medical services methods.

Maintains City vehicles, apparatus, and the station by performing inspections; performing minor preventative maintenance and repairs/upgrades; scheduling monthly and annual preventative maintenance tasks; and ensuring that all apparatus has been disinfected.

Performs firefighter duties by operating firefighting equipment and apparatus; participating in continuing education classes; responding to fire alarms; performing hose, salvage, and overhaul operations; and rescuing individuals.

Texas Certified Firefighter, Texas Certified EMT, BTLS, CPR Certified, Hazardous Material Awareness training, Fire Officer 1, Valid Class C Driver's License.
