BASIC FUNCTION & DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
SUBSTITUTE AND PERMANENT POSITIONS
SUBS ARE ON CALL / AS NEEDED
3 - 5.75 HRS/DAY
This is a continuous examination process and may close at any time, with little or no notice. An application review may occur at any time and qualified candidates who have submitted applications will be invited to participate in the testing process. Qualified applicants submitting applications after the review date will be considered in the next examination process. This list will be utilized to fill any vacancies that may occur during the one year life of the Eligibility List, which may include temporary positions.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of instructional tasks in support of a special education classroom; assist the teacher by performing a variety of clerical duties related to special education programs; assist in monitoring and responding to students with special needs.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assist a certificated teacher by providing individual assistance to students in academic areas; work with small groups of students to reinforce instruction provided by the teacher.
Assist students with low academic skills in Language Arts and Math; focus strongly on classroom discipline; follow structured program daily.
Assist students with activities and development of small muscles and eye-hand coordination; lead activities designed to help students achieve motor control and body awareness.
Assist teachers in maintaining appropriate order and student conduct in the classroom; observe behavior of students to assure safety; assist in resolving student disputes; refer serious discipline problems to the teacher or administrators.
Set up work areas and prepare areas for reading, crafts and other activities; set up exhibits, displays, collections and bulletin boards.
Maintain routine records related to student work and classroom activities; grade tests and check student test corrections.
Assist in performing general clerical duties related to classroom instruction and activities, such as typing, duplicating, filing and taking attendance.
Accompany mainstreamed students to regular classrooms as assigned; provide individual instructional assistance.
Attend staff meetings and in-service programs as required.
Perform first aid in emergency situations according to established procedures; observe health and safety rules and procedures.
Order, set up and operate a variety of audio-visual equipment as required. Operate copiers and other standard office equipment including a variety of duplicating machines, laminator, typewriter and others as required.
Monitor children on the playground, on educational field trips and during lunch time; monitor students getting on and off school buses as assigned; ensure health and safety regulations are observed.
Confer with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs as necessary.
Assist in administering and scoring tests and pupil work as assigned; record grades on papers and in roll books as assigned.
Maintain student work areas in a neat and orderly manner.
Perform related duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
1) Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
2) You MUST have completed 48 or more semester units of college credit.
EXPERIENCE:
One-year of paid/volunteer experience working with children in an organized setting.
LICENSES AND OTHER CERTIFICATIONS:
First Aid and CPR certificates must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.APPLICATION & EXAMINATION PROCESS
