Job Description
Responsible for the collection, analysis, and storage of data collected in the field to maintain a quality water and wastewater system
Essential Functions
- Monitors, records and calculates the integrity and capacity of wastewater lines using various types of field and office equipment. Will require entry into sanitary sewer manholes
- Monitors, records and calculates fluid measurements of water lines using various types of field and office equipment
- Performs field work in all types of weather using technical equipment to acquire data.
- Completes repairs on technical equipment.
- Performs surveying functions such as elevations, total station surveys, staking line, determining cuts and fills, and GPS
- Coordinates with this department, personnel from other departments and the public in conducting field operations, research projects and daily operations of the department
- Manages projects under the direction of a supervisor, engineer, and / or consultant.
- Writes detailed reports based on observation and research
- Reads plan information to determine distance and grade.
- Uses computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Arcmap, Survey link, and Floware to input, compile, retrieve, store, and download data.
- Handles customer inquiries
- Organizes and files paperwork, drawings and research projects
- Oversees the work of interns
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Three years of responsible experience in the Water/Wastewater field or public works construction or inspection or an equivalent combination of training, experience and education
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
- Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to effectively use computers, specialized computer software, and proficiency in standard office software
- Ability to consistently produce high quality work under minimal supervision
Conditions of Employment
- Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law)
- Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
- Must obtain a "D" certification in Water or Class I Certification in Wastewater within 6 months of employment
- Must pass a physical examination
- Must be able to lift 80 lbs.
- Must be able to remove manhole covers
- Must be able to work overtime when requested
Preferences:- Education or experience in Civil or Environmental Engineering or Engineering Technology
- Working knowledge of personal computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Arcmap
- Mechanical knowledge to repair technical equipment
- One year of a Technical curriculum during high school such as drafting or Autocad
- One year of college / trade school related to drafting, surveying, utility construction, or related technical curriculum.
