POSITION DESCRIPTION

 
The City of Rochester is accepting applications for:

Transit Monitor - ZIPS Dial-a-Ride Operations
and
Transit Monitor - Regular Route Operations (RPT)
(Part-time, under 14 hours per week)


 
Nature of Work
This position involves the counting of passengers riding Rochester Public Transit (RPT) and/or ZIPS Dial-A-Ride buses and collection of other data as needed including; recording the number of passenger boarding and deboarding by location, computing time and miles between stops, recording bus odometer readings, reporting of vehicle cleanliness and any observed incidences or other concerns. At various times the employee may be assigned additional duties such as distributing, collecting and tabulating surveys or inventorying bus stop signs.

Work Schedule
These positions are part-time - requiring 4 to 12 hour shifts every 4 days.

Assignments on RPT buses would require 4-6 hour shifts. Shift hours range between 5:00 am to 10:30 pm on sample weekdays. Shift hours range between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm on weekends and holidays.

Assignments on ZIPS Dial-a-Ride would require 12 hours on duty for each sample day. Work hours on sample days vary from early morning, midday, afternoons, or evenings scheduled whenever public transportation is operating. Sample days are Monday through Sunday and includes holidays.

Paid time will be computed on 15 minutes before the first scheduled trip to be sampled and 15 minutes after the arrival of the last trip to be sampled.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitor, track, document and assess public transportation data.

  • Count passengers on various routes and bus systems
  • Document miles, time and odometer readings
  • Observe and report  bus cleanliness and any incidents that may occur
  • Distribute, collect and tabulate survey data

Other duties may be assigned as needed.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The employee must be familiar with the geography of the City of Rochester including locations and street system. The employee must have legible hand writing, be able to do math including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, comprehend English and have basic computer skills including familiarity with email, Excel and Word.  The individual must have internet and computer access for assignments and reporting.   

The individual must be able to get to the downtown bus stop and/or ZIPS bus garage before and after regularly scheduled bus service. A parking pass to be used during work will be provided.
