Description
- This position may be filled at the Engineer I level which requires a Bachelors degree in Engineering ($23.979/hour). If applicants do not have an FE/EIT certificate, they will be required to obtain one within one year of hire. Applicants will also be expected to pursue their professional engineer's license at the first available opportunity.

- Under general to limited supervision perform professional level engineering work for several engineering functions and/or projects. Work assigned involves coordination of multiple components, needs, and phases related to airport development, which may included paving, grading, building construction, flight approach development, or other professional engineering work. Manage Federal Airport Improvement Program construction projects for Nebraska airports. Manage state grant and loan projects. Assist with airport inspections. Assist FAA in airport runway approach development, and obstacle penetration identification and/or remediation. Review airport construction plans and specifications. Review consultant submittals related to design, bid and construction for airport projects. Manage/assist the pavement preservation program; including scoping, design, and construction observation. Communicate/coordinate/educate city personnel and/or airport officials regarding various airport issues. Oversee completion of projects and supervises/coordinates with professional engineers, engineer-in-training, technical and/or paraprofessional level engineering workers, or complete engineering oversight requiring advanced professional engineering knowledge. Work may encompass designing, planning, scheduling, construction, project management, renovation/maintenance, materials analysis, engineering research, and/or comparable engineering functions.
Qualifications / Requirements
- REQUIREMENTS: Professional experience in an engineering field applicable to the employing agency AND must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application, and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at the time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.
PREFERRED: Knowledge/experience with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), State grant and loan programs, airport inspections, local height zoning, construction project management, airport runway approach development, development design bid and construction phase documents.
OTHER: Engineering degrees must be from an EAC/ABET-accredited program. Valid driver's license or ability to provide authorized independent transportation. Regular and reliable attendance is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Effective communication skills. Ability to organize,direct and schedule engineering related to design building, construction, maintenance or other functions related to airport improvements. Knowledge of civil engineering theories, principals and practices, and civil engineering methods and techniques of airport construction, maintenance and materials; legal responsibilities and ramifications associated with work performed, federal design standards, specifications and procedures; Practices and terminology of computer operations and CADD; GIS; mathematics; surveying; and materials testing. Ability to interpret, understand and implement state and federal laws and regulations and agency standards, policies and procedures.
