General Information

A Publications and Production Specialist contributes to the development of agency publications. A Specialist must understand and successfully apply agency standards regarding publications. Work products must be high quality, accurate, and developed within specific deadlines. The scope of this position includes critical reading and edit, graphics design, page layout, and project management concepts.
The position reports to the Manager of the Publications and Production Services (PPS) Team and operates under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Essential Responsibilities
- Edit and Review. Develop, review, and edit documents. Recommend revisions or changes in format.
- Document Layout and Production. Develop and implement document formats and graphics. Lay out documents for production. Coordinate the publication and distribution of session documents.
- Collaborate with Agency Staff. Adhere to management schedules and expectations for publication production, distribution, and delivery. Provide professional assistance to customers. Other duties may include the development of training materials.
- Contribute to agency projects and perform other duties, as assigned/appropriate.
Essential Attributes and Skills
- Compose, review, illustrate, and edit technical documents and reports using style guidelines.
- Know the techniques and methods of planning, organizing, and writing various types of publications.
- Understand and employ English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Skill in using word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (MS Excel), presentation (MS PowerPoint) software, and Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign.
- Design and produce graphics.
- Embrace agency mission/core values and follow policies, procedures, and processes.
- Work effectively with LBB management and staff, as well as all external customers.
- Coordinate, collaborate and employ good interpersonal skills; demonstrate positive outlook.
- Balance concurrent projects, work under pressure, and adapt to changing priorities/deadlines.
- Act with motivation, organization, and attention to details; complete tasks with an appropriate level of independence.
- Be punctual and have regular attendance.
- Work overtime on nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary to meet agency deadlines.
- Experience in editing, technical writing, or publications and graphic design.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred.
- Major coursework in journalism, communications, English, education, or related field is also preferred.
