Journeyman Lineman

Performs construction, maintenance, and repair on electrical distribution lines (13.8KV, subtransmission 69KV and transmission 115KV) and related equipment by performing the following duties.

The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.  Other duties may be assigned.  Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.
 
Maintains overhead and underground 13.8KV, subtransmission 69KV, and transmission 115KV distribution lines: removes and replaces poles; may trim trees or other vegetation from around poles; removes and replaces conductors; removes and replaces other worn or weathered parts; services transformers; lays conduit in ditch; operates line trucks, bucket trucks, backhoe, wire pullers and other tools and equipment.
 
Constructs and/or installs new, updated, or modified service: using blueprints and work orders, sets and frames poles; installs anchors; installs ground wire, conductor wire; prepares cable for primary subtransmission and transmission or secondary hook-up on riser pole or pad mount transformer; constructs transformer banks; installs transformers; installs meters; installs auxiliary equipment; energizes lines; may install street light poles.
 
Trains Apprentice Linemen: provides clear instruction for all functions of the job; answers questions; monitors work of Apprentice.
 
Responds to emergency calls: troubleshoots problem; makes necessary repairs to subtransmission and transmission distribution lines and equipment to restore power; checks reports on downed lines, making necessary repairs; locates and refuses switches; checks cause of lights out or dimmed lights, makes necessary corrections or repairs; completes reports on repairs; assists the Fire Department with electric subtransmission and transmission distribution lines or electric service as needed during fire emergencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of a four year journeyman lineman apprentice program and journeyman lineman status with certificate; or Completion of all NLRED journeyman lineman apprentice training or equivalent training, a lineman certificate of completion, and a recommendation to waive the remaining years of the four year apprenticeship program. The statement of recommendation must be signed by the NLRED construction supervisor and crew leaders and must be based on an employee's job performance with the City.

A valid Commercial Class B driver's license and good driving record are required and must be maintained throughout employment.
