Purpose
This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment used in the wastewater treatment process.
Essential Job Functions
Assists other mechanics and service contract providers as necessary.
Repairs and overhauls wastewater pumps, gear boxes, motors, and all other equipment in the wastewater treatment plant.
Welds, fabricates, and refurbishes parts and equipment.
Modifies existing equipment as needed to improve plant operations;
installs new pumps and equipment.
Designs handrails, foot bridges, and piping systems.
Orders parts and supplies.
Operates heavy equipment.
Repairs hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED plus vocational training in heavy maintenance and repair; with two years of heavy duty pumping and auxiliary power equipment repair and maintenance and/or basic electricity and advanced welding experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must possess' a valid class B commercial driver's license.
Additional RequirementsBackground investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; a motor vehicle report will be conducted, and driving history must meet the standards outlined by the City of Savannah; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment. The final score on this examination will consist of a rating of education and experience, plus veterans' preference points, if eligible. The names of all competitors rated eligible for appointment will be placed on the proper register according to their final scores.Additional Information
