Special Education Language Based Teacher

Provides small group and/or individualized instruction and a modified curriculum to students with special needs. Works with other staff members to deliver inclusive program.

1. Within mainstream or in pullout setting, provide teamed, small group or individualized instruction and/or academic support according to the general and specific goals outlined in students' individualized educational plans.

2. Modifies and adapts the curricula, materials, and physical environment to meet the needs of individual pupils.

3.Completes diagnostic testing (formal/informal) as required.

4.Participates in 766 meetings for pupils in the program or newly referred.

5. Acts as Case Manager for designated students, providing close communication with parents and staff and preparing progress reports, annual review narratives and individual education plans.

6. Attends designated school staff meetings.

7. Submits budget request, and required status reports as requested.

1. Massachusetts teacher's certification.

2. Certification as Teacher of School Age Children with Moderate Special Needs. 

3. Expertise in designing and implementing special education programs; preferably on the secondary level.

4. Experience in teaching students with language based learning disabilities, and reading disorders, preferred. Training in Orton-Gillingham based programs/ methodology strongly preferred.

5.Strong academic background: English/ Social Studies 

Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
