How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

The Information Services Department is seeking an experienced Applications Developer 2 or 3 to provide high-level development for Metro Transit (MT) and all related software packages. This position will be involved in new development initiatives, as well as on-going support and package upgrade tasks.

Applications Developers define business requirements; design, develop and implement software applications; develop and enforce technical standards and documentation; manage application projects; and provide on-going support.

Starting Salary Range
Applications Developer 2: $65,042 - $80,000
Applications Developer 3: $70,304 - $95,000

Full Salary Range
Applications Developer 2: $65,042 - $92,269
Applications Developer 3: $70,304 - $99,757

What you would do in this job:

  • Work with customized vendor packages.
  • Work with customers and IS project teams to define business requirements.
  • Assure that application functionality meets defined business requirements.
  • Develop understanding of source systems. Recommend changes to source systems to make them work efficiently with other Council application systems.
  • Develop reporting and analysis software and systems.
  • Develop applications.
  • Develop technical standards for on-going support of Metro Transit applications.
  • Coordinate and lead (Applications Developer 3 only) work with Application Developers, IS Database Administrators, Report Writers, contractors and vendors.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications):

Applications Developer 2:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or closely related field AND three years of experience in applications design and development.

OR
A high school diploma/GED AND seven years of experience in applications design and development.
OR
An Associate's degree AND five years of experience in applications design and development.
OR
A Master's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or closely related field AND one year of experience in applications design and development.
 
Applications Developer 3:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or closely related field AND four years of experience in applications design and development.
OR
A high school diploma/GED AND eight years of experience in applications design and development.
OR
An Associate's degree AND six years of experience in applications design and development.
OR
A Master's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or closely related field AND two years of experience in applications design and development.

What your work environment would be:
You would perform your work in a standard office setting. Work may sometimes require travel between your primary work site and other sites.
