Description
- The St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission (MetCom) is a quasi-governmental agency that provides water and sewer services for residents and businesses in St. Mary's County, Maryland. MetCom has a customer base of over 17,000 and exceeds $20 million in annual revenues. MetCom has an immediate opening for a Lab Analyst. The Lab Analyst Performs testing and provides results for assigned MetCom wastewater treatment plants for reporting and plant efficiency purposes.
Examples of Duties
- Essential Responsibilities : Performs a variety of testing procedures on wastewater samples; Provides results for assigned MetCom wastewater treatment plants for reporting and plant efficiency purposes; Records all data collected for reporting to MDE and other government agencies as necessary; Maintains all filing; keeps track of inventory; orders supplies as needed; Performs communications regarding hazardous materials; Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- Knowledge and Skills: Ability to gain thorough knowledge of St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission policies and procedures; Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission to the public and to representatives of government agencies; Ability to perform assigned tests and report results accurately; Expert knowledge of relevant laboratory practices, regulations and established procedures for handling samples; Ability to accurately record and report data; Knowledge of safety regulations and established procedures for handling samples; Ability to operate relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and office machines;
Ability to: Follow strict deadlines and be highly organized; Work under pressure to meet deadlines; Read, interpret, lab results. Gather analyze and evaluate a variety of data; Self-motivate.Education and Experience: Four year degree in Chemistry or Biology or microbiology; plus two or more years of job related experience; Wastewater Operator certification preferred but not required.
