Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to perform manual labor within the Public Works - Streets division. May be responsible for maintenance and repair of streets and related infrastructures, and/or construction projects.
The City of Farmers Branch will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come, first serve basis. As soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice after a three business day minimum posting.Essential Job Functions
- Performs semi-skilled and skilled tasks including installations, inspections, repairs and maintenance at assigned locations.Operates, maintains, inspects, troubleshoots, and performs minor repairs of various equipment including hand and mechanical tools and motorized equipment. Sets up work zones as appropriate and insures safety procedures and proper use of safety equipment at all times. Provides general maintenance support to special events.
A typical day may include inspecting assigned equipment, loading and unloading materials, and ends with cleaning and fueling equipment. Various tasks may also include heavy manual labor such as setting forms, shoveling/laying asphalt, placing concrete, shoveling dirt and flex base, tying steel, drilling holes, and setting traffic control devices.
Depending on the assignment may provide emergency response to Public Works issues after hours which may include but is not limited to all street problems, potholes, trees down, signals, signs, water and sewer issues.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Over one year general construction and/or maintenance experience is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
May be subject to on-call duty and/or being called in after hours. Work involves extreme exposure to disagreeable elements and extreme weather conditions. Physical demands include frequent lifting of heavy objects weighing 100 pounds.
Must possess or be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment (must pass all written exams for CDL within three months and obtain the full CDL within six months of employment).
Successful candidates will be required to pass a background check including criminal history, motor vehicle record, and a pre-employment drug screen.
