Requirements
- Candidate must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary school or Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) certification.
Licenses and Certificates: Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Texas by the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners prior to appointment or licensed in another state. If licensed in another state, must obtain Texas License within 30 days of appointment. USDA Accreditation within six (6) months of appointment.
Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state. General Purpose
Under the direction of the Veterinarian, provide high quality routine and emergency health care and treatment of zoo animals or of animals brought to the Animal Regulation and Disease Control (ARDC) facility (dependent on position posted) (as a professional member of the Animal Health and Nutrition team).
Typical Duties
Render veterinary care and treatment to animals. Involves: Perform routine and emergency medical care. Conduct preventive medicine including implementation of vaccination, parasite control, bio-safety, quarantine, and other protocols. Direct laboratory preparation of sample tissues for disease identification and prevention. Perform surgery and post-operative care. Conduct postmortem examinations. Maintain detailed records of veterinary care including drug logs. Collaborate with Veterinarian on review of animal diets, preventative medicine protocols, and animal husbandry and welfare.
Conduct specialized veterinary tasks. Involves: Participate in behavioral enrichment, research, and reproduction programs for animals. Perform epidemiological investigations. Provide technical support, information and guidance on veterinary issues. Respond to requests for information on animals, including diets, care, environmental issues and other information.
Perform related professional and incidental duties as required. Involves: Substitute, if assigned, for immediate supervisor or coworkers during temporary absences, as qualified, by performing specific duties and responsibilities essential to maintaining continuity of ordinary operations. Attend meetings, conferences and serve on ad hoc committees. Compile data, generate reports and maintain records and files.General Information

Salary Range: $58,484.86 - $81,732.59 Annually
The starting salary is generally at the beginning of the salary range.
