Summary
The TAIP Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for the delivery of cognitive substance abuse treatment programming.
Salary will be $3,034.50 for a counselor and $2,747.50 for an intern, per monthEssential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure confidentiality of information is guarded according to written guidance.
- Remain current on all legal issues and the law regarding substance abuse counseling; as well as CJAD Standards, and agency policy.
- Coordinates with Supervision Officers, Courts, and Jail to determine offenders needing services.
- Conducts screening, assessments, and psychosocial history on clients referred for services
- Makes treatment recommendations as to medical and non-medical detoxification, outpatient treatment, and in-patient treatment.
- Orients clients to program and services.
- Develops written treatment plan that addresses identified problems and needs. When possible and appropriate, family members and significant others should also participate.
- Develops goals that clearly state in behavioral terms what the client is expected to achieve during treatment.
- Conducts individual counseling, groups, and family/marital sessions to accomplish treatment goals.
- Provides monthly, or upon request, progress reports to the referral source.
- Documents goal achievements and revises/updates treatment plan to maintain progress.
- Conducts discharge planning with referral source and offender, and provides referral source with discharge summary.
- Maintain program statistics as required.
- Complies with the law, Departmental policy, and all applicable standards.
- Performs data entry of all applicable offender information and ensures that all offender records (computerized or paper records) are accurate, complete, and up-to-date.
- Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications, Education, and/or experience
Counselor: Must be LCDC or Qualified Credentialed Counselor knowledgeable in alcohol/drug education and 12-step program. Prefer Bachelors Degree in Behavioral Science or related field, but must have at minimum a high school diploma and LCDC licensure. Prefer experience with out-patient or in-patient treatment and step programs. Must be available to travel at least 10 percent of the year.
Intern: Must be LCDC or Qualified Credentialed Counselor Intern with valid and current Intern license issued by Texas Department of Health and Human Services (will consider individual who has completed practicum hours and is in the process of making application for Intern license with TXDHHS), and be knowledgeable in alcohol/drug education and 12-step program. Must have High School Diploma or GED. Prefer experience with out-patient or in-patient treatment and step programs.
Both: Must reside within 50 miles of the Midland CSCD building. Must be insurable by agency insurance carrier. Must have valid Texas driver's license, provide proof of insurance, and have adequate transportation. Must have favorable background check.Knowledge, Skills and/or ability
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Possess good interpersonal skills in dealing with offenders, public, and co-workers. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work in harmony with offenders, court personnel, city/county personnel, law enforcement agencies, public, and co-workers.
