Job Summary

NATURE OF WORK
Under general direction, performs work of considerable difficulty in planning, organizing, developing, and directing elections activities; the employment relationship of incumbents in this position is "at will", and as such, the employee may be terminated at any time, for any reason, with or without cause; this position has county wide responsibility.

Example of Work

(Illustrative Only) Plans, directs, and controls the preparation and conduct of elections; prepares and distributes newsletters; coordinates department staff activities; prepares correspondence and reports; maintains filing systems including complex or sensitive records; establishes department policies and procedures; prepares and administers department budget; prepares long range operating plans; directs and supervises staff; plans and recommends the establishment of new election precincts; regular and reliable attendance is required;  performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education

Must meet all current requirements of the State of Arizona (ARS 16-407) and be able to obtain election officer certification from the Secretary of State within one (1) year of the date of hire; Bachelor's Degree in business or public administration, public relations or a closely related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible election experience; AND two (2) years of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; requires successful completion of a background check.

This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point annually rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: County policies and procedures; voter registration and election management policies and procedures; principles and practices of public administration, public relations and public information; state and federal laws relating to election procedures; voting machines and their various applications; election administration policies and procedures; budget preparation and expenditure control.
 
Skill in: Preparing clear, concise and persuasive newsletters; instructing others; assigning and leading the work of others; speaking effectively to large groups and public bodies.
 
Ability to: Read, to write and synthesize data and reports; use modern office equipment and computers; communicate effectively verbally and written; establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers; lift at least 5 - 10 lbs; stand for long periods of time (up to 6 hours); bend, walk and stoop (20%).
