Essential Functions
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Office of Research Communications, Development and Learning; collaborates with all units within the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) to advance the research mission; assists with special projects related to enhancing research and creative activity of USA faculty and students; helps facilitate growth and development of USA's research and scholarly activities among faculty and students; assists with proposal and program development to include: assisting faculty in identifying opportunities for external scholarships, providing faculty with notification of targeted opportunities for externally sponsoring their research, scholarship and creative activities; facilitates all aspects of the proposal preparation process to include: coordination of a strategic road map for the proposal, development of proposal "boilerplate", coordination of the proposal development teams and review of the draft and final proposal documents; provides assistance in development and preparation of documents in support of program development; works across campus to facilitate and coordinate engagement with partnering universities, laboratories and community organizations; responsible for the coordination of ORED education and training programs by offering campus-wide learning programs for faculty and research administrators and providing faculty learning opportunities related to federal regulations and opportunities; coordinates the development of interdisciplinary teams to include: fostering the creation of cross interdisciplinary teams to pursue large funding opportunities and responding to societal needs for solving large problems; serves as primary faculty for the USA Research Administration Certificate program which uses Team Based Learning in the delivery of critical information which may include: working with faculty and administrators in preparing business plans; ensuring compliance with federal, state and sponsor requirements by reviewing existing policies; developing new processes and procedures; preparing and disseminating reports on campus capabilities, as required; manages and coordinates the development of the USA research eNewsletter and the Research and Development Learning Portal; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
Master's degree from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in sponsored programs, five of which were in a managerial capacity. Knowledge of electronic research administration process and reporting systems and web-based communication programs and systems is required. Experience in managing large or interdisciplinary programs and assisting faculty and graduate students in identifying grant opportunities is required. Experience in creating, coordinating, and teaching learning programs and opportunities for campus administrators and faculty is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, along with high standards for personal and professional excellence, achievement, and integrity. An open and collaborative style that promotes partnerships and the ability to build strong relationships across constituents is required. A Ph.D. or terminal degree is preferred.
