We are looking for an experienced Facilities Technician with a positive attitude, a desire to learn, and a desire to obtain skills in other areas of Facilities Management. We are seeking someone who will be sensitive to the needs of customers, the department as a whole, and co-workers. The ideal candidate will be looking for a challenge, can work with minimal supervision, and will be self-starting.

Our work environment can best be described as providing "Service and Beyond" to every customer, every day. We work as a strong team, setting high standards while helping each other be efficient and successful. The department is driven to operate in a business oriented manner, with all team members viewing their work and decisions as if it were they own business.

The City of Farmers Branch will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come, first serve basis. As soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice after a three business day minimum posting.

Essential Job Functions

This position will be a critical member of a 4-person team who will maintain and repair City facilities and will provide support for other departments as needed, including City events. Buildings supported are: service center, senior center, recreation center, courts, police, jail, fire stations, animal shelter, pump stations, historical park, parks facilities, etc. This position will ensure City services are in good repair and will perform all phases of building maintenance.

Ideally, everyone on the team will be trained and capable of working in skilled trades - mechanical, electrical, and plumbing as well as construction and remodeling of facilities including drywall, carpentry, roofing, etc. - and completing all services that are required by our internal customers. Essential skilled functions will be developed through classroom and on-the-job training, testing, skill demonstration, etc. As additional skills in one or more of the essential job functions are achieved and demonstrated, there will be potential for advancement within pay range.

Education and Experience

The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a technician in Facilities or a related area.

While no formal education or degree is required, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated an interest, desire, and a continual commitment to improving their skills and broadening their technical capabilities.

HVAC experience preferred but not required.

A valid driver's license with a good driving record and ability to maintain while employed is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

While technical skills are obviously critical in this position, to be truly successful and impactful on our team, you must demonstrate the following:

- a positive attitude,
- good communications skills,
- a light-hearted and genuinely appreciative demeanor,
- analytical thinking skills along with good judgment,
- the ability to make decisions independently,

ends (infrequent, but a requirement) and at City events throughout the year.
