Class Summary

Salary will be based on qualifications and experience. Salary Grade for this position is C44(1).

Department Information:  The Department of Information Technology Services consists of four Divisions:  Enterprise Applications/Development, Infrastructure/Operations, Fiscal/ Administrative, and Business Strategic Services.
 
The Enterprise Applications/Development Division has overall responsibility for the development, maintenance and support of the core business systems supporting Gwinnett County Government.
 

  • Business Solutions – Software support and maintenance for various applications such as document management, fleet maintenance, tax appraisal & billing, and database administration.
  • ERP Solutions – Provides development, maintenance and support activities for all SAP based business applications.
  • Land Information Solutions – Development and support of appropriate data sets and applications to support mapping services for Gwinnett County.
  • Public Safety Solutions – Software support and maintenance for various applications related to court and law enforcement functions.
  • Web Solutions – Development and support of internet and intranet applications.
Position Description: 
 
The IT Systems Administrator will be responsible for management of applications, professional, technical, and administrative work managing all aspects for all of the Public Safety Departments to include: Fire Departments, Law Enforcement Agencies, Emergency Medical Services and Criminal Justice departments in Gwinnett County. This position will also assist in preparing scopes of work and requests for proposal for the purchase of new/replacing equipment, maintenance and repair of equipment and for other services required to provide superior services. This position requires 24X7X365 support.

This position applies proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve systems issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT investments. This position will handle the day-to-day systems administration and work with the user community to maximize their ability to utilize all system functionality. The IT Systems Administrator may be required to provide project management and ensure that the business and technical architecture of the systems supported matches the customer requirements. The IT Systems Administrator may provide assistance in technical leadership as related to new applications, from strategic decision making to project planning and execution.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible, systems administration experience in a large scale Information Technology environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Candidates are required to obtain one or more of the following certifications: GCIC Security and Awareness certification; GCIC Network Operator certification
  • Requires 24/7 on call support
  • Requires experience managing day-to-day operations of large systems utilized by the departments listed above where the user base is larger than 1200 users.
  • Experience with project life cycle and project management principles.
  • Experience producing and distributing both technical documentation and user-level documentation.
  • Valid Driver's License from state of residency. 
Preferred Experience:
  • Sufficient experience in systems administration of software products to include: Computer Aided Dispatch, Law Records, Field Reporting, Fire Records, etc.
  • Experience in a large Public Safety environment where management of life-critical systems exists. 
  • Preferred experience providing direction and training to users at various levels of expertise to increase their knowledge and abilities to utilize systems supported.  
  • CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) / GIS (Geographic Information Systems) administration experience.
