Provides program support and assists the Program Manager with the coordination of services to juveniles (and their families) who are identified as moderate to high risk to reoffend and who have been referred to the Department Staffing Team due to behavioral health issues.
Assist in the development and implementation of counseling programs/services, that may include, but not be limited to; crisis intervention for juveniles in need of immediate mental health interventions, individual counseling services, family counseling, parenting skills, social skills, positive peer groups, substance abuse education/intervention, anger management, and preparation for adult living.
Work is performed under the supervision of the CJPO, however, the incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgment and make decisions within established policies and standards.  This position requires being available for crisis interventions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • assembles child and family wraparound teams
  • schedules and facilitates team meetings
  • works collaboratively with team members and outside agencies
  • assists the team in securing services to meet identified needs and brokers both traditional and non-traditional services individualized to meet family needs;
  • assists the juvenile and family in identifying both formal and informal supports
  • participates in the development and implementation of individualized service plans
  • identifies service gaps and/or lack of community resources
  •  monitors the implementation of service plan in collaboration with other team member
  •  performs crisis individual and family counseling
  • supervise and manage a specialized caseload of juveniles on Deferred Prosecution and/or Court Ordered Probation

Qualifications, Education, and/or experience

Bachelor's degree in social science, psychology, or related field and two years related experience, preferably in the field of mental health.  
 

Certification as a Juvenile Probation Officer by the Texas Juvenile Justice Deapartment. Maintain a valid Texas Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills and/or ability

Juvenile justice system; Texas Family Code; juvenile law; standards, Texas System of Care ; working with multi-system youth and families; and standard office practices and procedures.
 
Operate computers, including word processing and spreadsheet applications; organize and prioritize tasks to be assigned and completed; read and write instructions, legal documents, reports, letters, and other documents using proper format and grammar. Analyze various situations and determine best solutions; supervise work of others, recognizing problems and recommending solutions; perform basic mathematical calculations; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, juveniles and their families, and the general public.
