Class Summary

Salary will be based on qualifications and experience. The Grade for this position is C45(1).

Division Information:

  • The Enterprise Applications Development Division has overall responsibility for the development, maintenance and support of the core business systems supporting Gwinnett County Government.
  • Business Solutions – Software support and maintenance for various applications such as document management, fleet maintenance, tax appraisal & billing, and database administration.
  • ERP Solutions - Provides development, maintenance and support activities for all SAP based business applications.
  • Land Information Solutions - Development and support of appropriate data sets and applications to support mapping services for Gwinnett County.
  • Public Safety Solutions – Software support and maintenance for various applications related to court and law enforcement functions.
  • Web Solutions – Development and support of internet and intranet applications.
 Position Description: The Senior System Administrator is responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, installation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise application systems. Serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for system applications. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides project leadership in order to provide a high level of service to the customers of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or (5) five years of progressively responsible, professional level analyst and systems experience in a large scale Information Technology environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the jobs.
  • Valid Drivers License from state of residency.
Preferred Experience:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with upper management.
  • 3 to 5 years' experience managing Information Technology projects specifically for business applications, including either third party or developed implementations, and following the best practices for the System Application Development Lifecycle.
  • 3 to 5 years' hands-on experience in application administration, installation, upgrade, configuration, and advanced troubleshooting.
  • 3 years' experience as a technical lead.
  • 5+ years' experience of asp.net.
  • 5+ years' experience with Crystal Reports and/or SSRS.
  • 5+ years' experience with SQL Server databases, Oracle is a plus.
  • 3 – 5+ years' experience with Crystal Reports and/or SQL Reporting Services.
  • In-depth knowledge writing, reading, debugging SQL Stored Procedures.
  • Dependable: Excellent attendance, maintains positive working relationship with co-workers and customers; maintains positive and proactive attitude.
  • Communication: Utilizes strong communication skills to communicate with management, users, colleagues and vendors.  Strong listening skills to ensure that the needs of all parties are understood.
  • A solid understanding of DBA concepts and practices.
  • Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands basic routing concepts and ports.
  • Ability to write scripts in some administrative language.
  • A fundamental understanding of System Application Development Life Cycle
  • Comfortable with most aspects of operating systems
  • Independent problem-solving skills, automate processes and self-direction
Availability Requirements:
Monday – Friday (8AM-5PM)
After Hours – Emergency Only
Weekends and Holidays – Emergency Only
On-Call Rotation – Carry on call phone and respond in accordance with On-Call policy when assigned on-call duties.
