Job Summary
Under direct supervision, operates a variety of automotive and light maintenance and construction equipment; performs numerous maintenance and construction tasks.
Performs litter patrol duties Citywide on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and performs litter patrol duties in Uptown Greenville on Saturdays and Sundays.
Qualified applicants must be available to work a Wednesday through Sunday working schedule as shown below:- Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Sunday: 3:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
Examples of Duties
• Operates a variety of light duty trucks;
• Operates a variety of lawn tractors, tractor mowers, and motor mowers;
• Operates other light duty motorized equipment as assigned;
• Transports work crews and equipment to and from work sites;
• Serves as a member of litter patrol crew;
• Picks up and delivers a variety of materials and supplies;
• Assists in loading and unloading equipment and supplies;
• Washes, greases, services, and makes minor adjustments to equipment;
• Performs a variety of manual labor tasks;
• Operates more complex equipment on a training or limited basis; and
• Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or GED preferred and
• At least one year of experience operating required equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
• traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and of the precautions needed to avoid accidents;
• occupational hazards and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of automotive and motorized equipment; and
• methods and materials used in servicing and operation of light duty vehicles and motorized equipment.
Skill in:
• operation of light duty vehicles and motorized equipment.
Ability to:
• read and write sufficiently to complete required tasks;
• recognize and report abnormal operating functions of equipment;
• perform strenuous work;
• withstand exposure to inclement weather conditions;
• understand and follow oral and written instructions;
• prepare simple records;
• establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and other employees; and
• meet the mental and physical demands of the position.
Special Requirements
- Valid North Carolina driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Work in all kinds of weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, etc.).
- Lift and/or carry 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally along with the other duties required for this position.
