Job Summary and Essential Functions
JOB SUMMARY
This position typically provides supervision and scheduling of operations personnel in such a manner as to achieve the effective and efficient operations of the water and wastewater facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Supervise plant operations personnel.
- Schedule and assign work priorities.
- Coordinate shift schedules.
- Update and maintain logs and records.
- Receive customer complaints over the phone and coordinates services/repairs with various crews.
- Write legible and descriptive reports on duties performed.
- Receive, monitor and mix chemicals that require forklift certification and load HTH chlorine drums into the back of a standard pickup truck.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning tasks with a variety of hand tools for equipment, buildings and grounds.
- Maintain, calibrate and operate testing equipment.
- Collect samples and maintain proper documentation as required by DHEC.
- Record flow, rainfall, and other data changing charts as required by DHEC.
- Perform visual and auditory inspections of plant equipment and maintains appropriate logs.
- Maintains septage tickets and maintenance sheets.
- Files and enters sludge tickets.
- Purchases tools and chemicals for plant operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements to Perform Work
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- High School diploma or equivalent;
- Four (4) years of related experience in a pollution control plant;
- Or equivalent education, and/or experience.
- Class "A" Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate;
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license for South Carolina with safe driving record;
- Departmental testing may be administered during interview;
- A criminal background check will be completed on selected applicant if a current one (less than 3 years old) is not on file.
- Knowledge of mathematical calculation methods and mapping systems, and have some knowledge of PC computers to interpret alarm systems.
- Ability to give and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to display supervisory capabilities.
- Ability to display strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to qualify for CPR certification, for wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and pass a physical that will be required to be a member of the rescue team.
- Ability to prepare purchase orders and manage inventory.
- Ability to make budget recommendations and manage the budget.
- Ability to use or repair small, medium and heavy equipment and machinery.
- Ability to supervise employees.
Physical Demands
This position requires the employee to sit and stand; use hands to handle, feel, finger, grasp or operate objects; reach, pull and push with hands and arms; balance, climb, crawl, crouch, kneel and stoop; use mental acuity and repetitive motion; and walk, talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to sixty (60) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Conditions
The work is regularly performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities and needs. Thirty-seven and one half (37.5) hours per week. Normal operating hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., with the ability to work flexible hours when necessary. Scheduled hours/days, job location, duties and any other information contained herein is subject to change. May be required to work extra hours and to perform extra or different duties during emergency situations.
