Licensed Psychologist

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has an exciting opportunity for a Licensed Psychologist at our Norfolk Regional Center (NRC).

M-F / 8am-5pm / Occasional Weekend

Psychologists take leadership roles on treatment teams and provide individual and group therapy for patients while they are in the program. Psychologists do evaluations of psychological functioning, intellectual ability, and personality as well as assessments of risk for violence and re-offense. With Psychiatry, they develop the patient diagnosis in Diagnostic Staff. Psychologists take leadership roles on Medical Staff and other committees within the hospital, including: Program Planning, Medical Records, Restraint and Seclusion, Administrative Council, etc. Psychologists provide virtually all testimony for mental health board hearings. With a current shortage of psychiatry, psychologists represent the only other independent practitioners with primary training in mental health treatment. Psychologists also provide consultation on behavioral plans and provide training for staff who are new to the area. 

REQUIREMENTS: Must be licensed to practice psychology in the state of Nebraska.

PREFERRED: Doctorate in Psychology with clinical certification by the Nebraska Department of Health. Required clinical internship plus one year experience as a clinically certified psychologist with management experience preferred. Preferred: Experience working with sexual offenders, prisoners and/or severe and persistent mentally ill. Should have Doctoral degree and be licensed as a psychologist or have a provisional license as a psychologist. Knowledgeable of common psychological tests and risk assessment devises. A forensic orientation is helpful as psychologists provide most mental health board testimony. 

Flexibility in working with an interdisciplinary team as well as a diverse population of sex offenders. Special knowledge in working with lower intellectual functioning, learning disabled, or personality disordered populations. Should possess a training orientation to help educate front line staff about working with a sex offender population. The psychologist should develop knowledge of the sex offender commitment act and the mental health commitment act.
