Class Description

This is a Non-Civil Service Position
 
The City of Baltimore, Department of Human Resources, is seeking a Nutritionist to contribute to the City's wellness initiatives.  The incumbent will provide nutrition and wellness coaching to a 15,000+ employee stakeholder workforce. 
Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Chief of Benefits and serving as a driver for wellness efforts, the Nutritionist will:
  • Provide nutrition coaching to employees.
  • Develop and recommend nutritional education programing and resource materials; including but not limited to communication materials and education aides.
  • Speak to groups regarding healthy lifestyles and advise on recommended nutritional requirements.
  • Demonstrate and teach food selection and preparation.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, seminars and workshops.
  • Conduct research, prepare narratives and prepare statistical reports.

Minimum Qualifications

Competencies & Qualifications 

Bachelor's degree in foods and human nutrition, dietetics, community nutrition or nutritional care from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in human nutrition or dietetics AND licensure as a dietician or nutritionist by the Maryland Board of Dietetic Practice, required.   Master's degree in public health with nine credit hours in human nutrition OR a master's degree in human nutrition with nine credit hours in public health may be substituted for one year of the experience requirement.

Working knowledge of the principles of nutrition as applied to human growth and development.  Ability  to provide nutritional counseling and speak before groups regarding nutrition and to promote healthy eating habits. Ability to prepare a variety of educational and visual aids.  Ability to motivate others to change food and lifestyle habits that impact health.  Ability to establish and maintain working relations with individual of varying backgrounds. Ability to present ideas effectively orally and in writing.
