Job Description
Under limited supervision, performs routine duties related to the enforcing of the County Sanitary Code, Ottawa County Environmental Health Regulations, and State Laws regarding environmental health. Position will conduct real estate transfer evaluation inspections, routine on-site inspections of campgrounds, sewage disposal and water well finals, septage truck inspections, and other duties as assigned. Utilize current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments. Under the directions of a Senior Environmental Health Specialist (SrEHS), conducts field evaluations and generates reports for environmental health programs.
This is a full-time, benefited position working from the Department of Public Health in Holland, MI. Must be able to work weekends and evenings when necessary.Required Education, Training and Experience
Possession of an Associate's Degree or two to three years of technical schooling in environmental, earth sciences, or related areas. Six months to one year experience with soils testing, hazardous materials, water quality, solid waste, and/or other environmental fields preferred. Must have a valid motor vehicle license.

- Experience working with the public and providing excellent customer service.
The following are areas knowledge and experience that are desired (but not required for consideration):- Knowledge of waterborne illnesses and prevention thereof.
- Knowledge of water quality testing methods, well construction practices, and water sampling procedures.
- Knowledge of soil types and sewage disposal system design and construction.
- Experience conducting inspections and investigations.
- Experience providing education and outreach to the public.
Physical Requirements:- Must possess sufficient strength and mobility with or without assistive devices to access all areas, features, fixtures and furnishings of sites during inspections.
- Must have sufficient visual acuity with or without corrective lenses to visually investigate and inspect items.
- May be exposed to extreme temperatures, chemicals, and moving mechanical hazards.
