The Position

Lightspeed Makerspace Volunteer  - Ontario City Library

Do you love technology?  Are you a person who likes to share knowledge with others when you learn something new?  If you said "yes" to both these questions, we need you to volunteer to help operate the Ontario Library's Lightspeed makerspace.  Lightspeed at Ontario City Library is a place for the Ontario community to dream, learn, create, experiment and connect with likeminded individuals.  Located within the Ovitt Community Library, the Lightspeed makerspace will get you involved with helping others in computer aided design, 3D printing, laser cutting, textile crafts like sewing and serging, papercrafts with Cameo and Cricut, Minecraft programming, simple coding and elementary circuitry for younger Ontario residents.  Be a part of an emerging technology phenomena libraries throughout the country are joining in, and along the way, learn some skills that you can use to grow your own future.

All volunteers will undergo a training period to learn how to use the Lightspeed equipment and to understand the Lightspeed area's operational policies.  No volunteer will be left alone and will have staff backup at all times. The Ovitt Family Community Library is located at 215 East C Street and operates Monday-Thursday, 10AM – 9PM, Friday-Saturday 10AM – 6PM, and Sunday 1PM – 4PM. The ideal volunteer must be creative, inquisitive, patient, empathic, have good listening skills plus the ability to maintain confidentiality and respect personal boundaries.

Each year we recognize one outstanding volunteer on our Volunteer Walk of Fame next to City Hall.
