Essential Functions

Designs and oversees the implementation of archaeological research projects requiring advanced knowledge of excavation and analytical techniques; plans and organizes fieldwork; conducts fieldwork to excavate artifacts using hand tools or with the assistance of power tools; maps, surveys, and photographs work sites; analyzes artifacts and prepares detailed data recordings; washes and conserves artifacts; independently analyzes and interprets data; prepares management summaries and technical reports for review; assists in the preparation of contract proposals, grant applications and progress reports; supervises lower level staff and students to include training and assigning and checking work; ensures safety in fieldwork and laboratory analyses; presents findings at local and national meetings; utilizes various laboratory equipment; prepares reports of research findings; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required. 

Minimum Requirements

Master's degree in anthropology with an emphasis in archaeology from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama.  Archaeological field experience especially in cultural resource management preferred.

Working Days and Hours

Monday - Friday with some weekends
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (varies)
