Description
Performs skilled drafting in preparing finished engineering plans and maps; makes mathematical computations; and performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is the fully competent class in the Engineering Drafting series. This class is distinguished by its responsibility for performing skilled engineering drafting work and carrying out to completion the preparation of difficult finished drawings and mathematical computations.Examples of Duties
The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position.
Checks and reduces field notes; calculates distances, angles, areas, curves, and traverses; computes earthwork quantities and prepares mass diagrams; plots topography, cross sections and profiles; makes finished drawings and tracings; makes quantity estimates; prepares maps, charts, graphs, and diagrams; compiles engineering and hydrologic data and information for completion of drawings or for record and statistical purposes; maintains drafting equipment and supplies; makes changes to and revises existing maps and records; reduces and enlarges scaled drawings; transcribes and reduces field survey notes and develops topographic maps, cross-sections and profiles; makes field investigations; may prepare specifications; may direct and review the work of other drafting aids .Minimum Qualification Requirements
Training and Experience: a combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and three years of engineering/civil drafting work experience.
License Requirement: possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license (equivalent to State of Hawaii Type 3) may be required for specific positions.
Knowledge of: mathematics, including geometry, plane trigonometry, particularly as applied to the computation of distances, quantities, angles, areas and traverses in the reduction of survey notes and in the development of maps, plans, and descriptions; the nomenclature, symbols, methods, principles, practices and instruments used in engineering drafting and mapping; the general sources of engineering information; use of standard office machines and equipment, including personal computers, peripheral equipment, and software applications.
Ability to: use drafting instruments, planimeter, calculators; make mathematical computations for lot closures, circular curve data, land areas, engineering design grades and volumes; do free-hand lettering and sketching; prepare and interpret a wide variety of maps, details, drawings and descriptions from field notes and rough sketches or preliminary designs; keep records and prepare reports; operate a personal computer using a variety of software applications.
Health and Physical Condition
Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
