Job Responsibilities

The Department of Mental Health is a drug-free workplace.  All candidates will be required to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug test.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health Crafts-Farrow, 7901 Farrow Rd, Columbia, SC 29203.

Under general supervision, performs trade related duties of moderate difficulty in multiple trade areas. To provide a safe environment and humane atmosphere for residents and staff. Performs electrical repairs and maintenance, repair or replace light bulbs, tubes ballast, fixtures, receptacles, switches and/or appliances when needed. Performs plumbing repairs and maintenance. Repair doors, ceiling tiles, locks, windows, hangs bulletin boards, pictures, etc.

Performs repair in HVAC, make adjustments or repairs on thermostats, clear clogged condensation lines, report issues found to supervisor.

Performs repairs on hospital equipment, i.e. beds, bedrails, wheelchairs, and geri-chairs. Deliver oxygen to wards. Maintain records on supplies and work orders. Maintain adequate supplies in shop and truck. Perform other related duties as needed. 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

High school diploma and four (4) years' experience in building maintenance. 

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment commonly used by the major trades; electrical, refrigeration, carpentry, plumbing, etc. Ability to maintain detailed records on materials needed and used.

Additional Comments

Work involves performing skills duties in the maintenance of buildings and building equipment. Employee may be required to rotate or change shifts with minimal notice. Employee will be required to climb ladders, stoop, bend, and lift in excess of fifty (50) pounds.
