Detention Officer - Reviewing Applications - Posted Until Filled

This is an entry-level, professional staff, full-time position with the City's Police Department. An individual in this position will be responsible in guarding inmates in penal or rehabilitative institution in accordance with established regulations and procedures.

• Monitor conduct of prisoners, according to established policies, regulations and procedures, in order to prevent escape or violence; inspect conditions of locks, window bars, grills, doors, and gates at correctional facilities, to prevent inmate escapes;

• Search inmates, cells and vehicles for weapons, valuables and drugs; search for and recapture escapees; inspect mail for the presence of contraband;

• Record information, such as prisoner identification, charges, and incidences of inmates disturbance;

• Conduct fire, safety and sanitation inspections;

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Subject to 24-hour call.

High School Diploma or General Educational Development Certificate and must have successfully completed a Texas Basic Jailer Course as defined by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Educations within one-year of employment.
