Job Responsibilities

The Department of Mental Health is a drug-free workplace.  All candidates will be required to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug test.
                                                                                  
This position is located at the Department of Mental Health Crafts-Farrow, 7901 Farrow Rd, Columbia, SC 29203.

Supervise a crew of skilled craftsmen involved in the overall installation, maintenance, and repair of complex electrical and electronic systems that require a high degree of skilled and technical knowledge. Will resolve specific needs and perform duties in accordance with trade practice and approved work request.

Supervise, assign, and review completed work of subordinates in maintenance, repair, or construction assignments to ensure proper operation of electrical systems. Supervise the installation of conduit systems, wiring, wiring devices, and fixtures to ensure installations are by code. Supervise and coordinate repairs to nurse call, public address systems and generators. Oversee repairs of generators throughout the department. Ensure accurate records are maintained for review. Supervise installation of electric farm alarm equipment. Oversee repairs of electronic fire alarm systems throughout the department. Ensure accurate records are maintained for review. Assist in planning, scheduling, and accomplishment of special projects. Determine supplies and materials required to complete special projects. Complete personal records to include EMPS, PD's, and other related employee management files. Provides safety training and skills training to skilled craftsmen. Perform other related duties as required. 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

High school diploma and five (5) years' experience in a related trade area or any combination of training/experience that would enable the employee to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this position. An Electrician Journeyman license and a SC State Contractor's License.

Preferred Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials used in electrical maintenance and construction through knowledge, techniques, methods, and practices of the trade. The ability to interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications. Must have good communication and supervisory skills. 

Additional Comments

Employee required to work in a variety of environments. Must be willing to work overtime, on-call, and emergency situations.
