There are currently three (3) vacancies for this position in the Energy Resources Department. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIESx

Performs position and overhead welds and layout on pipe fittings, tie-ins, and branch connections; repairs and installs parts for equipment, machinery, piping, tools, and other metal objects in accordance with appropriate industry standards; does cutting, layout fitting and brazing; makes  polyethylene fusions, oxyacetylene welds, and electric welds of all types under difficult conditions (e.g., in bellholes, under emergency time limits, on high stress/tension pipes, etc.); works in or near the presence of "live" natural gas performing work which may permit gas to escape; maintains and adjusts gas and electric welding equipment; interprets and works from engineering drawings; observes and enforces safety rules and regulations; may drive trucks; and performs other related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS TO FILEx

Applicants must meet options A or B:

A.   Certification as a pipeline welder  (proof required)* AND one year of experience welding pipelines that must include Pipe Fitter experience.

OR

B.    One year experience welding pipelines AND a Certificate of Completion from a Pipe Fitter program or apprenticeship (proof required)*

Additional Requirements to File include:
  • Willingness to work weekends, nights, holidays and overtime as required.
  • Availability to respond to emergency calls on a 24-hour basis.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license and a current DMV driving record is required and must be submitted to the hiring department at the time of selection.
  • If appointed, candidates will be required to complete the Department of Transportation oxyacetylene certification during probationary period and re-certification annually. 
  • Comply with the Anti-Drug and Alcohol Program as required by the Federal Department of Transportation regulations on an ongoing basis. 
  • Comply with the Energy Resources Department Operator Qualification Program based on department standards and maintained on an ongoing basis. 

*Required documents, such as certificates, must be uploaded to the online application at the time of filing.  Any proofs submitted must contain either the applicant's name or other identifying characteristic on the form.
 
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  American Petroleum Institute (API) 1104 certified and/or American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Section 9 certified.
 

SELECTION PROCEDUREx

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE:

 A minimum rating of 70 must be attained in order to pass the examination. 
 
This is a continuous examination.  As qualified applications are received, a performance examination will be scheduled.  Applicants may take this examination only once during a four month period.  Candidates may hold only one position on an eligible list.  If a candidate re-tests and qualifies, the candidate would be placed on the eligible list based on their most recent score.

Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the performance examination. During the performance test, applicants must perform two welds, which will be analyzed and rated: 

1. Twelve-inch butt weld/arch, 5G Position 
2. Twelve-inch saddle weld/arc, 6010-root with a 7018-fill layout and cut, fit, and weld 12" on 12" branch saddle connection required by procedure.
