Overview
Employment Status: Full-time, probationary non-exempt position.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Position Summary: The Administrative Analyst/Specialist is a broad classification with four position skill levels. It is designed for positions covering a wide range of general and/or specialized administrative responsibilities in support of a program and/or organizational unit. The majority of work is administrative and analytical in nature with duties covering operational, policy and program research, analysis, reporting, and evaluation for the effective development and administration of programs or improvements to operational policies and procedures. Incumbents may also provide program administration or leadership. Responsibilities may include overseeing day-to-day administrative operations and providing lead work direction to others.Typical Activities
OVERVIEW:
Under the general direction of the Director of Environmental Health and Safety, the incumbent will participate in planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining programs that are necessary to ensure a safe and healthy environment throughout campus; protecting the university against losses; and ensuring that university operations are in compliance with university policies and standards, California Occupational Safety & Health Act (Cal/OSHA) and other applicable environmental and health rules, regulations, and laws. The incumbent collaboratively works with Colleges, Departments, Student Clubs and Auxiliary Organizations to identify areas regarding safety and environmental compliance.
Typical duties will include but are not limited to:- Serves on various committees; training; program development, implementation, and oversight; chemical hygiene; laboratory safety and general support regarding departmental needs.
- Inspects campus departments responsible for fire and life safety compliance.
- Maintain and track compliance documents to include a variety of local and state permits.
- Updates and maintains a variety of files, records, charts and other documents; gathers, compiles and synthesizes data; maintain appropriate records and prepares reports as required.
- Responds to health and safety complaints.
- Monitors the use of chemicals or hazardous materials, the generation and accumulation of waste streams and use of personal protective equipment in very diverse university operations such as laboratories, shops, classrooms, maintenance, and prep areas.
- Ensures proper use of personal protective equipment, safe operating procedures, chemical storage, safety data sheets and control measures.
- Manages hazardous materials (substances and waste) and ensures environmental compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Chemistry, Public Health or related field plus two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in environmental health and safety compliance field.
- Applicant must be able to work independently while focusing on the global needs of the campus community.
- An ability to use a computer with Microsoft Office applications is required.
- Applicants must have excellent organizational skills along with the ability to clearly and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, technical information to audiences with varying levels.
- Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with a diverse university community.
- A current and valid California Drivers License.
- A Masters Degree in environmental health science or a related field.
- Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) from the State of California Department of Health Services.
- Experience in an institution of higher education is preferred.

This position may be "Designated" under California State University's Conflict of Interest Code.
