Description

Headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating 10 institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). NDCS is seeking candidates for the Electronics Technician Senior at the Lincoln Correctional Center. Examples of Work

Repair, install, troubleshoot and maintain all equipment and wiring for perimeter sensor systems, facility surveillance camera systems, network video recorders, dedicated surveillance system video servers, electronic intrusion detection systems and facility television distribution system. Maintain tool, chemical, and equipment inventories. Modifying new equipment to interface with older systems. Estimates cost, material and time to install, replace or modify electronics equipment to fit the facilities needs. Design, build and spec out electronic equipment for installation. The position located at the Lincoln Correctional Center will be responsible for supervising an Inmate work crew. 

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Two-year vocational degree in electronics, electricity, or other similar technologies and experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing electronic devices/instruments, computer equipment, or related automated/electrical circuitry and hardware. Additional years of experience in the work described may substitute for the educational requirement on a year for year basis.

PREFERRED: BICSI level I certification or Fiber optics technician certification; experience soldering and repairing printed circuit boards. Electrical Apprentice license desired.

OTHER: Valid driver's license required. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of appropriate hand tools, power tools and equipment. Knowledge of Cat 6 and fiber optic data transfer wiring. Basic internet protocol addressing Panasonic IPRO Systems and software, Southwest Microwave Micropoint Intrusion Detection Operation and Software. Bend and install raceway (EMT) and associated materials. Must be able to work an on-call rotation. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
