Job Summary
- NATURE OF WORK
Under limited supervision, performs work of significant difficulty in producing technical computer aided drafting and design (CADD) layout work for maintenance projects, works with and manipulates GIS data, and; this position has department specific responsibility. Example of Work
- (Illustrative Only) Prepares accurate and complex drawings, design environments, models, and databases for civil engineering design projects; and design layout drawings from the engineer's design concept and plan criteria, using CADD software. Collects data in the field using Global Positioning System (G.P.S.) units; generates maps and compiles and organizes GIS data from maps, databases and other sources; tracks, inspects, and monitors Public Works' assets distributed throughout Yuma County and enters data collected into asset management software; interprets field notes, legal descriptions, and civil engineering symbols; conducts road right-of-way research, verification and analysis; and prepares drawings; assists supervisor and staff in preparing and generating reports and inventories; may act as a lead in guiding and mentoring staff; researches and interprets related documents, maps, and drawings. Organizes research information and prepares plans and documents for presentation. Conduct research, gather data and perform analysis for cost efficiency and product durability for all highway maintenance materials and equipment; administers all phases of contract management; prepares and develops bid documents, works with staff in the preparation of bid documents, works with the County's procurement division and legal division in the preparation of bid documents and understand the County's procurement practices; assists in resolving project issues such as coordination, scheduling, or technical concerns; regular and reliable attendance is required. Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education
- Associate's Degree in engineering technology, CADD and civil drafting, or geographic information systems, AND five (5) years of civil drafting or GIS experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license. Requires successful completion of a background check.**NOTE: Yuma County reserves the right to underfill the Senior Civil Technician (Grade 222) as a Civil Technician (Grade 201 Min: $16.44/hr. - Mid: $20.54/hr.) until such time as the successful candidate completes all education and training requirements.**
This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of: County policies and procedures; County procurement policies; all phases of contract management; the principles of general engineering and civil drafting techniques, terminology, methods, and practices; nomenclature, symbols, methods, practices, and instruments used in drafting and design; the principles of algebra, geometry, trigonometry and mathematical calculations; applicable statutes rules, ordinances, codes and regulations; legal documents, maps, and engineering designs; computer hardware and specialized CADD and GIS software applications (AutoCADD and ArcGIS).
Skill in: Organizing project data, creating and analyzing surface models using point elevations, creating road layouts, creating profile grades, sections, creating parcel layouts; interpreting technical information and producing engineering drawings; reading, understanding, developing, manipulating, and analyzing engineering information in a variety of data formats and projections; the use of equipment and tools necessary in applying engineering theory to practical drafting; technical writing and making technical mathematical computations; assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands; establishing effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public; following and giving written and verbal instructions; communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to: Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public; follow written and verbal instructions; assigning and leading the work of others; planning and organizing work; lift 10 pounds, bend, stoop, kneel, stand and walk.
