Description
- The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking qualified candidates for a Waterworks Operator IV in our Water Production Division. This person performs duties associated with operating a water treatment plant. Maintains and operates equipment to filter and maintain water pressure. Performs various tests to ensure the safety of water.
RE-ADVERTISED Essential Functions
- Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Operates the plant by conducting various chemical tests and making adjustments, performing maintenance on plant and equipment, maintains log and equipment records, monitoring personnel entering or leaving the plant, and resolving problems.
- Monitors filtration by adjusting filters to match water coming into the plant, monitoring for turbidity and head loss, and running them through a cleaning process.
- Monitors water pressure by adjusting pumps to keep pressure within specifications while maintaining the proper levels in tanks.
- Operates the plant by conducting various chemical tests and making adjustments, performing maintenance on plant and equipment, maintains log and equipment records, monitoring personnel entering or leaving the plant, and resolving problems.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or GED. Work requires broad knowledge in a general technical and professional field.
Three years' experience. Additional Information & Requirements
- Must hold a Waterworks Operator Class I License.
Work Hours: 3 days on 3 days off; 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. (hours subject to change)Work Location: 3719 Parker Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia 23502; You may be required to work at 6040 Waterworks Road, Norfolk, Virginia 23508 as needed.
This position is designated as an Essential position which means you may be required to work extended, rotating, after hours, nights and/or weekends in response to emergencies and severe weather.
