SWEEPER OPERATOR

Under the direct supervision of the Street Superintendent and his Assistant. This position is responsible for street cleaning and maintenance and repairs of public thoroughfare and related improvements. This position works 40 hours per week Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., except the night sweeper, this one position works 4:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., during Spring and Summer months and 12:00, midnight, to 8:00 a.m. during winter months. Frequent overtime evening hours, week-ends and holidays, plus stand-by on a rotation basis.

• Operates street sweepers in an assigned area.

• Cleans, services and makes minor adjustments according to manufacturers specifications.

• Maintains records of maintenance and street sweeping operations.

• Makes minor repairs to equipment, such as replacing gutter brooms, curtains on pick-up head, belt adjustments on blower fan, gutter broom height and angle for sweeping and using check list in operators manual.

• Assist Street Division personnel in other areas of responsibilities, such as pavements and alley repairs, chip sealing program by operating dump trucks, rollers or traffic control.

• Assist with snow and ice control by operating salt, sand trucks or trucks with mounted plows.

• Assist with the clean up of areas of responsibility in Service Center Complex.

Two (2) years experience in operation and maintenance of light equipment with a workable knowledge of street sweepers. Experience in street maintenance and repairs. Must have or be able to obtain within three months or next available testing date, a valid New Mexico Commercial Drivers license with appropriate endorsements. Position requires safety toe footwear.
