The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the position of Program Specialist 4 – Chemical Dependency Professional at the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton, Washington.
 
The Washington Corrections Center is a Reception and Diagnostic Center. The facility is a close-custody facility with the primary responsibility to process, test, and classify all adult male felons sentenced to prison in Washington State. The facility has seven living units and houses 1,700 offenders. There are about 500 offenders screened and assessed each month. WCC is also the major hub for transfer of offenders to and from facilities throughout the state.

Responsibilities

  • This position contributes to the Department of Corrections by providing expertise and technical assistance to ensure the delivery of substance abuse services in alignment with evidence-based practices at WCC.
  • Reports to the Program Specialist 5 working out of WCC's receiving unit.
  • Monitors the admission of offenders sentenced to specialized sentencing alternatives or other triaged populations screened and assessed for substance use disorders.
  • Determines work priorities according to established policies and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assists in the timely movement of offenders between units for the substance use disorder assessments and between facilities for treatment.
  • Ensures the offenders are assessed and identified for treatment at receiving facilities. 

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

Associates degree with a Social Service or Criminal Justice focus from an accredited institution whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or a foreign equivalent.

Chemical Dependency Professional (Initial and continuous unencumbered licensure in the State of Washington)

Candidate will be required to submit official academic transcripts upon employment.

PREFERRED:

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or a foreign equivalent.

Professional experience and understanding of evidenced based treatment delivery practices.

Professional experience using OMNI, SharePoint, Target, or other offender tracking system.

Experience within DOC environment.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation

Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
