Building Maintenance Technician - HVAC

This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of city heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

Maintains, monitors, and repairs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in city buildings.

Serves as lead worker on skilled assignments.

Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs problems with air conditioning systems.

Requisitions parts and supplies as needed.

Installs ductwork, units, and peripheral equipment.

Uses hand and power tools to make repairs as needed.

Assists in determining when city buildings', heating and air conditioning systems require the repair or maintenance services of outside contractors.

Assists in the maintenance and repair of city buildings as necessary.

Interacts with customers to determine maintenance or repair requirements.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

High School diploma or GED plus vocational technical diploma HVAC; with three years of journey level experience in residential and commercial HVAC and refrigeration; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. HVAC certification preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license.

This position is designated as critical workforce and safety sensitive .

Work Hours:  Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM ; Work Location: 5 Interchange Court 

Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.  The final score on this examination will consist of a rating of education and experience, plus veterans' preference points, if eligible. The names of all competitors rated eligible for appointment will be placed on the proper register according to their final scores. 

Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system installation, repair and maintenance practices.

Knowledge of city policies and procedures and departmental and safety rules and regulations.

Knowledge of the standard materials and tools used in the installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC systems.

Knowledge of the occupational hazards in the use of power tools and equipment.

Skill in the use of hand tools and power equipment necessary to perform various building maintenance and repair tasks.

Skill in following instructions.

Skill in using meters, gauges, and measurement devices.

Skill in oral and written communication.
