Equipment Operator I - Solid Waste

The purpose of this position is to provide for the removal of waste and recycling materials from customers. This is accomplished by operating heavy automotive and other equipment for collecting, transporting, and disposing of solid waste, yard waste and recycling materials from residential and commercial sources.

Collects waste and refuse by driving assigned routes and picking up solid waste, yard waste, and recycled materials; transports waste to landfill and recyclables to appropriate site; delivers and exchanges refuse containers; and inspects/maintains vehicles and equipment.

Requires high school diploma or equivalent; Texas Commercial Driver's License; previous experience in the operation of refuse trucks preferred; knowledge of Federal and State traffic laws; ability to follow oral and written instructions. Requires ability to work in all weather conditions; push, pull and/or lift items weighing approximately 50 lbs. Subject to exposure to dust, fumes, vibration, noise, and dirty working conditions. Frequent sitting, standing, and some walking.

Essential personnel may require 24-hour call-out for emergency or hazardous situations.
