Job Summary

Rice County is seeking a Director of Maintenance applicant to develop and implement highway maintenance programs for a 432 mile system that contains 7 cities and 14 townships. Rice County has a population size a little over 65,000 and is located in southern Minnesota just 30 miles South of the Metropolitan Area.
JOB SUMMARY:
Plans, organizes, and directs countywide road maintenance programs and projects through subordinate staff and hired contractors. Assists the County Engineer with short-term and long-term budget planning for maintenance projects and equipment.Examples of Duties
- Directs countywide program of road maintenance. Plans maintenance and work projects, assigns personnel, hires contractors and supervises projects.
- Assesses road conditions, determines work required, and schedules work.
- Manages maintenance division staff and oversees department operations.
- Recommends purchases and procures equipment, maintenance materials, safety supplies, and repairs.
- Oversees preventative maintenance of all vehicles and heavy equipment for the department. Coordinates daily with Shop Foreman to ensure maintenance is performed on schedule.
- Organizes, implements and maintains the Department safety programs, rules and procedures;
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and communications, and coordinates with other government agencies, vendors, contractors, and the general public;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two years post-secondary education and five to seven years of highway construction experience including two years supervisory experience or equivalent combination. Commercial Driver's License required.
Supplemental Information
UNION: Exempt, Non-Union – Grade 14
HOURS: Normal business hours are Monday thru Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm. Position is fulltime, 40 hours per week. May occasionally need to work outside those days and hours.
