Definition
This is a full-time, mid-level, service workers position in the City's Police Department. An individual in this position will manage and oversee the daily activities of their assigned shift.
Examples of Work
- Ensure the duties and responsibilities of all officers are carried out efficiently and effectively; establish goals and objectives for employees; conduct performance evaluations; mentor and motivate employees; manage work assignments; approve work schedules; counsel employees; recommend discipline; review and approve all written documentation prepared by officers; and perform inspections of officers and assigned equipment.
- Provide administrative support by recommending policy and procedure modifications; refer non-routine matters to the appropriate person; coordinate training and development opportunities for assigned personnel; serves as jail administrator; compile and prepare statistical reports; manage the in-car videotape program.
- Conduct patrol or operational responsibilities by enforcing Federal, State and local laws; respond to emergency calls; assist in managing major crime scenes; write reports; issue citations; testify in court; maintain assigned equipment; evaluate offense reports regarding solvability factors and assign cases to detectives for follow up investigation as warranted.
- Ensure all warrants are entered or removed from the computer system according to established standards; review all affidavits for accuracy; and ensure all arrest, search and seizure documents meet state specifications/requirements;
- Handle citizens' complaints in conformance with department policy; communicate with the public as needed.
- Conduct Internal Affairs investigations; maintain training databases and records; schedule and coordinate training; host training, maintain compliance with TCOLE mandates; maintain inventory pertinent equipment and ammunition; purchase equipment and ammunition; and complete special projects as assigned.
- Support the Department with recruiting and testing of applicants, as well as, conducting background investigations on new hires; completing new hire paperwork; and entering information into the computer;
- Perform other related and or specialized duties as assigned.
- Subject to 24 hour recall.
Education, Experience, or Certification
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate, three years of continuous service as a Missouri City Police Officer and/or Detective and Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) certification are required.
Supplemental Information
The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
