Description

This is a continuous recruitment and may close at any time without notice.

Under general medical direction, to perform a variety of occupational therapy services; and to do related work as required.

Essential Functions

  • Confers with physicians regarding the type of occupational therapy service required for the patient; evaluates functional performance capabilities of patients;
  • Develops treatment plans for patients designed to assist patients to achieve optimal functioning;
  • Administers specialized occupational therapy procedures, including application of splints and instruction in use of adaptive equipment;
  • Teaches corrective exercises to patients;
  • Assists patients with particular adjustment problems;
  • Participates in in-service programs for staff;
  • Maintains records of services.

Employment Standards

Graduation from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy. Possession of a valid certificate issued by the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Applicants must attach a copy of their valid certificate issued by the American Occupational Therapy Association, and documentation showing graduation from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy, to this application.  

Knowledge of: the principles of occupational therapy; knowledge of the operation and care of occupational therapy equipment; knowledge of human anatomy and physiology; ability to administer various types of occupational therapy services; ability to work effectively with handicapped persons; ability to teach.

All Kern County employees are designated "Disaster Service Workers" through state and local laws (CA Government Code Sec. 3100-3109 and Ordinance Code Title 2-Administration, Ch. 2.66 Emergency Services). As Disaster Service Workers, all County employees are expected to remain at work, or to report for work as soon as practicable following a significant emergency or disaster.

Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening at county expense.
 
This examination will establish an eligible list from which one immediate appointment will be made at the Public Health Department. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed.

Admittance to each phase of the examination will require a government issued photograph identification. Applicants who ae unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Kern County Human Resources Division prior to the test date.

APPRAISAL (Weight 100%): of training, education, experience, interest and personal, fitness for the work based on any combination of the following: Investigation, oral exam and rating of application. Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
