General Trades Mechanic #2018-PT17

Skilled maintenance and construction work in the trades on a journeyman level in support of the Fire Department. Performs general carpentry repairs, minor plumbing work such as repairing valves/faucets and replacing broken bathroom fixtures, unstops sinks, toilets, and drain lines. Performs floor and wall tile repairs.  Renovates and replaces park bathrooms, partitions and walls. Performs general maintenance and cleaning.  Performs painting of small structures, park benches, and tables. Performs some routine electrical repairs to building light fixtures and light ballast, electrical boxes and switches.  All electrical work including high voltage street lights repairs will be performed under the supervision of the city licensed Electrician.  Performs general routine and preventive maintenance to all Fire Department facilities. May perform work at other City facilities.  Performs related duties as required.

High school diploma or equivalent.  Considerable experience in building maintenance and repair in one or more of the trades on a journeyman level.  Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Valid Florida driver's license.  Experience and efficiency in the operation of a personal computer is a must. Must have good communication skills, work well with co-workers and keep an excellent accurate maintenance work log. Ability to work from blueprints, rough sketches and oral and written instructions.  Labor intensive position with the ability to walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, push and pull.  Must be able to perform moderate moving on a regular basis and occasionally perform heavy moving.  Specific abilities include hearing, talking and seeing.  Exposure to loud noises, fumes, gasses, odors, machinery hazards and adverse weather conditions.

Work Days/Hours   :   Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. No more than 25 hours per week
