Job Summary

*FIRST REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS ON TUESDAY, APRIL 17.

Performs skilled labor operating heavy motorized equipment in the construction, reconstruction, repair, snow removal, and bituminous work on County roads. When not assigned to operate equipment, incumbent may be assigned to perform general labor, flagging, or assisting other workers on the job.

Examples of Duties

  • Operate trucks and heavy equipment in the removal of snow and ice from assigned roads.
  • Haul, dump and spread aggregate on roads and shoulders. Operate compaction equipment in conjunction with shouldering and resurfacing operations.
  • Cut and remove brush and trees from right-of-ways using chain saws, weed whips, mechanical brush choppers or mowers. Apply herbicide to prevent future growth.
  • Repair asphalt surfaces with bituminous patch materials. Perform routine bridge maintenance as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance on all equipment.
  • Mow county ditches.
  • Use front end loader and backhoe to clean ditches, lay tile lines and excavate for culvert installation.
  • Respond to emergency calls on weekends, holidays and evening hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The job requirements include a high school diploma and two years of highway construction and maintenance or snow removal experience, or equivalent. Class A Minnesota Commercial Driver's License required.  Previous highway maintenance experience preferred.

Supplemental Information

HOURS:  Normal working hours 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.

HIRING RANGE / UNION:  $18.39  - $19.31 / 49ers – Grade 6
 
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
The position requires Maintenance Operators work in the field in all weather conditions. Must have ability to walk, stand, kneel, or squat frequently, and must lift or carry 25 lbs occasionally and up to 75 lbs intermittently. Frequent exposure to construction equipment and noise, hazards at construction sites, pesticides and other chemicals, and extreme weather and other outdoor conditions. Some work at heights required. Position requires Maintenance Operators to work weekends, nights, and holidays as required by weather and road maintenance conditions.
